MARRIED on the 1st January 1848, at Trinity Chapel, Graham's Town, Cape of Good Hope, by the Rev J. Locke, Mr. James CAMPION to Eliza, second daughter of Mr. Thomas RADMALL of Cape Town.
DIED at Caledon on the 22nd December 1847, after 24 hours illness, Ryno Johannes VAN DER RIET Esq, aged 34 years, third son of J.W. VAN DER RIET Esq of Uitenhage, deeply lamented by his family and a numerous circle of friends.

Notice to Creditors
In the Insolvent Estate of John RAFFERTY of "De Tanais of de Drani" on the Sunday's River, in the Division of Uitenhage, Agriculturalist.
All persons claiming to be creditors under this Estate are required to take notice that the undersigned have been duly elected to, and confirmed in the appointment of Joint Trustees of the said estate, and that the Master has appointed the Third Meeting to be held before the Resident Magistrate, at his office at Graham's Town on Wednesday the 9th February next, at 10 o'clock in the forenoon, for the proof of debts, for receiving the Trustee's report, and also for the purpose of giving directions to the said Trustees as to the management of the said estate.
And all persons indebted to the said estate are required to pay the same to the Eastern Province Trust Company, Graham's Town, on or before the 8th day of February next, or proceedings will be instituted against them

In the Supreme Court of the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope
Cape Town, the eighteenth day of December 1848 [sic]
John CARLISLE, Applicant versus Thomas ROBSON, Respondent
Upon motion this day made to this Court by Mr. J.W. EBDEN, it was prayed on the affidavit of the said John CARLISLE, now produced and read, for an interdict in order to restrain Thos. ROBSON, the above respondent, from removing, selling, or alienating any of the Goods, and ay of the Sheep or other animals as well as those belonging to the applicant John CARLISLE, as those belonging to the said respondent, or any other person, being upon a certain Farm or Place situate in the division of Somerset, called Glen Cliff, the property of the said applicant, until the said respondent shall have paid the rent due by the said respondent to the said applicant, under and by virtue of a certain contract of lease executed by and between the said applicant and respondent, dated the 21st day of February 1844 or thereabouts, and done and performed all matters and things which ought by him to be done and performed under the said contract. Whereupon it is ordered that the interdict be and the same is hereby granted as prayed to continue in force until the further order of the court upon cause shown.

The appointment of several High Constables are gazetted, amongst which are Mr. J. GRAHAM for the District of Albert, Mr. J. McDOUGAL, Bathurst; Mr. MAHONY, Stockenstrom; Mr. T. ARMSTRONG, Fort Beaufort.
The appointment of James O'REILLY Esq, Clerk of the Peace for the District of Somerset, to be Civil Commissioner and Resident Magistrate for the District of the Caledon River, also appears in the Gazette. This gentleman being well acquainted with the Dutch language, and familiar with the customs and habits f the Dutch farmers, and with whom we are informed he is a favourite, it is, perhaps, as suitable an appointment as could have been hit upon; and our fellow subjects in the district to which he has been appointed will, it is hoped, give him a cordial welcome.
