AN UNFORTUNATE OCCURRENCE
A child about five months old, son of Mr. HUGHES, tailor, died during the past week from the effects of an over dose of medicine. It appears that two doses had been sent for to the apothecary’s – one for the mother and the other for the child. That for the adult contained a certain quantity of opium, which, given by mistake to the infant, produced fatal results. The case we are told occupied the attention of the court and an impression seems to have gone forth that the bottles containing the medicine were wrongly labelled. This was, of course, calculated to act prejudicially to the party’s interest; but we understand that the examination entirely removed all doubts upon the subject, and showed clearly that the proper label was put upon the right bottle, and that it was owing entirely to a mistake after it had reached its destination.
