South African Commercial Advertiser 1845 - 4 - October to December
Wednesday 1 October 1845
Cape Town, 29th September 1845
To the Editor: Sir, In the remarks with which the Report of the Missionary Meeting in Union Chapel is introduced, in your paper of Saturday last, I am mentioned as being of “The Church of Scotland”. This is a circumstance of little importance in itself, and of no interest to the public in general; but as the term, as there used, may be considered by some as implying more than the writer can have intended, it may be as well to state that the “Scottish Church” in Cape Town, of which I am the minister, was never, so far as I know, taken into connexion with the Established Church of Scotland; and that, as it regards myself personally, I have, ever since the well-known disruption took place, invariably, and in the most explicit terms (in official documents, as well as otherwise) expressed my cordial attachment to the principles of the Free Church. By giving this a place in your next number, you will oblige, Sir, &c
George MORGAN

A good deal of sickness prevails at present in Cape Town, caused probably by the sudden and considerable changes in the temperature and other states of the atmosphere usual at this season. The symptoms are catarrhal, with occasionally sharp pains in the chest, requiring prompt treatment, but generally yielding to the timely use of the lancet. Dr. ABERCROMBIE, who, from his extensive practice and active habits, had been very much exposed for several days last week, suffered an attack of some severity on Friday, which, however, was promptly checked; and his patients, and friends, and the public by whom he has been long highly respected, both in his professional and private character, will be glad to learn that he is recovering and doing well.
