Col. DICKSON announces that on the 4th October next the Royal Mail Coach will start to run regularly between Cape Town and Graham’s Town. Among Churches, Schools, Roads and the Press, the Mail Coach has always been classed as one of the civilising powers, the contents both of its body and its basket being equally hostile to its ignorance, superstition and local prejudices. In Great Britain it was observed that fairies, witches and ghosts gradually shrunk northward as Stage or Mail Coaches extended their circuits from the metropolis, until they took refuge in the Western and Northern Islands of Scotland, from which the Steam Boat is now rapidly dislodging them. The principal superstitions in this Colony relate to Caffers, Cattle and the value of Land, all of which will speedily be dispelled by living witnesses passing to and fro in this politic conveyance.
