SAD DEATH OF MRS. J.L. BRADFIELD.
The sad intelligence reached Queesntown by telegraph on Friday evening of the serious illness of Mrs. J.L. BRADFIELD, wife of the Hon.J.L. BRADFIELD, M.L.C. On Saturday a further telegram was received announcing the death of that lady. Mrs. BRADFIELD was confined on Monday, and shortly afterwards she became so unwell that Mr. BRADFIELD was summoned from Capetown, and was expected to reach Dordrecht on Saturday or Sunday. On Saturday morning another wire was received by Mrs. BRADFIELD's brother – Mr. J.B. SHEARAR, of this town – this announcing the sad end. Mr. SHEARAR left Queenstown on Sunday in order to be present at the last rites. The death of the deceased lady is due to puerperal fever. Mrs. BRADFIELD was, up to the time of her illness, in good health and strength. She had endeared herself to a large circle of friends in Queenstown, Dordrecht, and the district, all of whom join in heartfelt sympathy with the family in their unlooked-for and painful bereavement.

OBITUARY.
THE LATE REV. JOHN WILSON.
The Rev. John WILSON, who died at Cala on Wednesday, the 29th July, was for nearly fifty years a conscientious and faithful minister of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. When a youth he was articled to one of the first architects in England, and his worldly prospects at that time were very good. But he cheerfully resigned them for the Ministry of the Church of Christ. Being accepted by the British Conference, he was sent to the Theological College at Richmond, where he studied for three years, and at the end of that period left England for South Africa. He arrived in this country in the year 1845, his first appointment being to Grahamstown, where he remained for three years. He subsequently labored in the following Circuits: - Kingwilliamstown, Bathurst, and Fort Beaufort twice, Port Elizabeth, Cradock, Somerset East, and Graaff-Reinet. In all these spheres of labour, Mr. WILSON and his devoted Christian wife were greatly esteemed and beloved, and their influence and work were productive of much good. In the year 1884 Mr. WILSON became a Supernumerary Minister, and took up his residence for a time with his son at Askeaton. It was here that, a few months later, he suffered the irreparable loss of the loving and saintly wife, who, for nearly forty years, had so earnestly assisted him in his work, and whose name had long been a household word in the various Circuits in which they had resided. Shortly after his wife's death he removed to Stanger in Natal; but the climate not suiting his health, he returned to Askeaton, and in 1886 settled in Cala, where he rendered effective service in the cause of Christ, and was instrumental in establishing Methodism in that place. Through his diligent and persevering efforts a handsome stone church was erected and opened free of debt, called the "Jubilee Church." For the last two or three years Mr. WILSON's health declined, rendering it impossible for him to travel, so that, greatly to his regret, he was unable to visit the country parts of his circuit, and was compelled to confine his services to Cala. But, though unable to leave the town, and often confined altogether to his house, yet his influence was felt by many in the neighbourhood, who had learned to love and esteem him very highly for his work's sake, and who availed themselves of every opportunity of visiting him at his hospitable home, and enjoying Christian intercourse with him. His death was sudden and quite unexpected by his friends. On the Sunday previous he conducted the service in the church, both morning and evening, and the following two days he visited some of the members of his congregation, though suffering from a cold. Wednesday he appeared better, and on retiring about half-past nine that night seemed in his usual health. An hour later, however, he called his daughter and complained of great difficulty in breathing. Being alone, and alarmed at her father's state, she called in some friends, and shortly afterwards the doctors arrived; but could do nothing for him. He passed away almost immediately without a struggle, his dying word being "Jesus." – The funeral took place on Friday afternoon, and was very largely attended, between three and four hundred persons being present, including many from the country. The service was conducted by the Rev. Joseph START, of Mount Arthur, who had kindly and promptly responded to the invitation of the relatives of the deceased that he should officiate on the occasion...

DIED,- On the 20th Aug., at Addiscombe, Queenstown, in the 14th year of his age, John Percy, third son of the Hon. J.M. PEACOCK.

SINCERE SYMPATHY!
It is with feelings of intense sympathy with the bereaved ones that we record the death of John Percy, the third son of our esteemed Hon. J.M. PEACOCK, M.L.C. The sad occurrence took place yesterday (Thursday) and was of a sudden nature, for on Tuesday the deceased was watching a game of football. The cause of death was a throat affection. We tender, on behalf of the public generally, our deepest sympathy to the friend's of the departed in their sad bereavement – sad in its every aspect!
