Welcome to GED2Pama, a specialised web application designed for South African genealogists. This tool allows you to transform your genealogical data into the standard De Villiers/Pama South African genealogy format.

📋 What is GED2Pama?

GED2Pama is a "GEDCOM to Pama" converter. It takes a standard genealogical file (GEDCOM) and generates beautifully formatted reports including:

• Descendant Views: Detailed lists of family lineages.
• Family Views: Visual layouts of couples, their parents, and their children.
• Exportable Formats: You can save your reports as high-quality PDFs, Microsoft Word documents (RTF), or Webpages (HTML).

Privacy Note: Your family data remains your property. Your uploaded files are processed entirely in your web browser and are not stored or copied to any external server.

🚀 How to Use the App

Step 1: Upload Your Data

• Click the "Select .GED File"
• Locate the .ged file exported from your genealogy software (e.g., Family Tree Maker, Ancestry, MyHeritage).
• The app will display a progress bar while it reads your family data.

Step 2: Customize Your Report

Once your file is loaded, you can adjust several settings to fit your needs:

• Select Progenitor: Choose the starting person (the "a1" generation) for your report.
• Filter Surnames: Narrow down the report to specific family names.
• Generations: Decide how many generations deep you want the report to go.
• Date Formats: Choose your preferred way to display dates (e.g., DD.MM.YYYY).
• Privacy (De-identify): Hide details for living individuals by filtering out data for people born within the last 50, 75, or 100 years.

Step 3: Preview and View

• Click "Confirm & Load Preview".
• Use the "Generate Descendant View" for a traditional list or "Generate Family View" for a person-by-person visual breakdown.
• In the Family View, you can click on family members to navigate through your tree.

Step 4: Download and Save

When you are happy with the preview, choose your preferred download format:

• HTML Webpage: Best for viewing on a computer or sharing online.
• A4 PDF Document: Best for professional printing and archiving.
• RTF (MS Word): Best if you want to edit the text later in a word processor.
