BEYERS, Johan David (1877 – 1936)
MR. JOHAN DAVID BEYERS, the fourth son of the late C. F. Beyers, Esq., and brother of General Beyers, hails from Stellenbosch, in the Cape Colony, where he was born in the year 1877. He received a thorough classical training at Victoria College, Stellenbosch, matriculating at the Cape University in the year 1896. Launching out into life he entered the law by becoming articled to his broth er, the well-known General who took an active part in the late Anglo-Boer War. At the outbreak of which Mr. J. D. Beyers joined the Boer forces, serving a both in Natal, Orange Free State, and the Transvaal. On the termination of hostilities he again returned to his brother, but subsequently, after some six months, set up in practice on his own account as an auctioneer and admitted law agent at Edenburg, where he still continues to carry on business.
In his spare time he takes an active interest in various branches of sport, and was the secretary of the Edenburg Tennis Club and other local clubs.
In the year 1903 he married Paulin Emelia, youngest daughter of Dr. Kellner, of Bloemfontein.
Note: Johan David died at Gordons Bay in the Cape on 2 Aug 1936, at the age of 59. He had two sons, Christian Nielen and David Otto Kellner Beyers.
