BOLEY, Julius (1871 – 1956)
MR. JULIUS BOLEY, the well-known merchant of the town of Jagersfontein, was born in Germany in the year 1870, and is the eldest son of Mr. G. Boley, a merchant of Cassel, Germany. Having completed his scholastic career in Germany, he set sail for South Africa, landing at Port Elizabeth in the year 1885. Shortly afterwards he proceeded inland, and taking up his abode at Fauresmith, in' the Orange River Colony, became engaged as bookkeeper in a general merchant's office there, where he obtained a thorough commercial training, which subsequently, in the year 1897, enabled him to set up in business on his own account in partnership with Mr. A. Engler, and since that date has successfully traded as a General Merchant and Produce Dealer at Jagersfontein.
He has for the past eighteen months been a member of the Jagersfontein Municipal Council, and in the year 1897 held a similar position at Koffiefontein, in the Fauresmith District.
He now carries on a large business with the Dutch farmers in the district, and deals in all forms of produce in the South African Market.
Note: Mr Boley was not married and died at Port Elizabeth in 1956 at the age of 85.
