Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born in Herefordshire, son of Charles and Elizabeth.

 

A letter written in 1825 shows that he had a brother William,who was living in Presteigne, just over the border from Herefordshire.

Charles EVANS and Elizabeth GALLIERS were married on 20 December 1773 in Leintwardine, Herefordshire 

 

Another letter from his son Charles, written in 1824, implies that he deserted his wife and family prior to 1820. Mary EVANS was only 26 when the Weymouth sailed, so she was presumably not the mother of Charles' children. None of the children sailed. Possible baptisms below.

Henry son of Charles and Susanna EVANS baptised 1 April 1814 in St.Anne, Soho (born 15 February 1814) - age slightly out but could be the 7 year old mentioned in Charles' application to emigrate.

Susanna daughter of Charles and Susanna EVANS baptised 29 December 1815 in St.Margaret, Westminster (born 11 November 1815)

Eleanor Mottram daughter of Charles and Susanna EVANS baptised 11 September 1817 in St.Margaret, Westminster (born 20 August 1817)
