Death Notice (Cape Archives) says his wife was Mary HARDY and suggests that he was born ca April 1786, the son of another William SINGLETON

Charlotte, daughter of William and Mary SINGLETON, baptised 31 August 1812 in St.Mary, Arnold, Nottinghamshire [died prior to her father's death in 1843]

 

No baptism of the eldest daughter under the name Elizabeth SINGLETON (who married John FLEETWOOD  on 25 Feb 1822 at the Cape) has been found. She was almost certainly the illegitimate daughter of Mary HARDY, adopted after marriage by William SINGLETON.

Elizabeth, illegitimate daughter of Mary HARDY baptised 15 October 1804 in St.Mary the Virgin, Southwell, Nottinghamshire [Mary married William SINGLETON just over two weeks later]

 

William SINGLETON was probably the son of William SINGLETON and Cassandra CHAPMAN, who married in in St.Mary the Virgin, Lowdham, Nottinghamshire on 14 September 1783 and baptised a son William there on 2 May 1784 (born 26 April 1784)

DIED on the 13th inst. at the residence of Mr. FLEETWOOD, Mrs. Mary SINGLETON, widow of the late Mr. William SINGLETON, aged 89 years and 3 months.

 

If the above is correct then Mary HARDY was born ca January 1774
