London Metropolitan Archives:

Samuel BONNIN married Ann WORRELL on 5 June 1817 in St.Martin in the Fields, Westminster.

Both signed their names.

Witnesses: Thomas WORRELL and Elizabeth SQUIRE

Robert, son of Samuel and Ann BONNIN, cabinet maker, 66 Great Queen St, was baptised on 27 November 1819 in St.Giles in the Fields, Holborn.

This is clearly the ‘infant son’ referred to in Samuel’s letter, as the address is the same as that on the correspondence, but Robert probably died in infancy as he did not accompany his parents to the Cape.

Ann WORRELL was the second wife of Samuel BONNIN. On their marriage entry Samuel is not designated as either a bachelor or a widower, but Caroline and Susannah were definitely children of a first marriage.

Caroline, daughter of Samuel BONNIN and Sarah baptised 6 November 1803 in St.Luke’s, Old Street (born 22 September)

Susannah BONNIN of Samuel by Sarah baptised 4 May 1806 in St. Giles in the Fields (born November 21 1805)

Westminster Archives:

Henry James BONNIN, son of Samuel and Sarah, baptised 30 July 1809 in St.James, Westminster (born 10 July)
